Picking a home charger in India is easier than the internet makes it sound. Two questions decide it. Everything else is marketing.
The 30-second answer.
Here are the two questions:
- How long is your car parked at home? More than 8 hours — any AC charger will do. Less — step up.
- Does your home have 3-phase power? Most Indian apartments and villas above ₹1 cr property value do. Most older single-family homes don't.

Why kW matters less than you think.
A 40kWh battery on a 7.4kW charger fills in about 6 hours. On a 22kW charger, it's 2 hours. Fast, right? Except if the car sits there for 10 hours anyway, you paid three times the money for zero additional charge. The cost-per-kWh-delivered is identical. You just have 8 idle hours on the meter.
The kW ladder matters in exactly two scenarios: either the car doesn't stay long enough for slow-charge to finish (rare at home), or the battery is massive and you want overnight wriggle room (BYD Seal, Kia EV6, upcoming Scorpio-N EV).
